From Our Pastor.....

“It is not by muscle, speed, or physical dexterity that great things are achieved, but by reflection, force of character, and judgment.”
- Cicero, more than 2,000 years ago.

We’ve just celebrated the birth of Christ which happened more than 2,000 years ago. We’ve celebrated the beginning of the Christian year (with Advent) and are getting ready to celebrate the secular New Year. The old has ended; the new is upon us. So what will we say of the past, and what will we say of the future?

I’ll be facilitating a group, beginning January 7, 2020, that will help us address those questions for our lives and more. I hope you’ll join us at these informal gatherings.

We’ll use the book, The Gift of Years, by Joan Chittister, which looks at the aging process from the point of view of burden and blessing. See below for more details.

Please contact Sue in the church office to purchase your book. They are available now, and you will need to have read the introduction through page 31 prior to the first class.

May you have a blessed New Year and may we at St. Paul’s be a blessing to one another & the larger community.

Pastor Sheree

A Word From SPRC…..

While we were saddened earlier this past year to learn that Jonathan Shim was leaving St. Paul’s for another position, we feel blessed that God sent a qualified pianist to help lead us into this new year of 2020.

Tom Cole is a newcomer to Kerrville and is self-employed in the estate sales business. He most recently lived in Corpus Christi and has accompanied several church choirs since obtaining a degree in sacred music from Baylor University in 1990.

Tom has been attending St. Paul’s since late November and many of you have met him. Sunday, January 5th, we will welcome Tom into our fold and seek God’s continued blessings as we all work together to further His kingdom.

Staff Pastor Parish Relations Committee

A special welcome to our newest church member!

Dawn Shaw

We are so glad you have joined our family of faith and look forward to serving with you!

Prayer Requests

When you are thankful and want to praise God, and when you or someone you know is hurting, we want to pray for and with you.

If you want to place a prayer request on our email prayer chain or a name on the prayer list in our bulletin, please call Judy in the church office.

If you want a person’s name lifted before the congregation during worship, please fill out a prayer request card (yellow card) and give it to an usher. Be sure you have checked the appropriate boxes for how the prayer is to be handled. If the boxes are not checked, we do not know what to do with the prayer.

PLEASE NOTE: That we need the permission of the person for whom we are praying to lift them up before the congregation and/or place them on the prayer chain or list.

The staff would like to thank the St. Paul’s church family
for your generous monetary Christmas gift.
We appreciate your thoughtfulness so very much!
We are truly blessed to be part of such a loving, caring church
and to get to work alongside all of you in helping to fulfill
the mission and ministry of St. Paul’s!

Christ Crew Youth meets on
Sundays 6-8 pm

Happy New Year!
What an exciting end to the Year 2019! Although I have only been at St. Paul’s a short time I feel the Christ Crew has accomplished so much. Here is a quick run-down of the things we have accomplished in the last quarter of 2019 to close out the year:

à Trunk-or-Treat in October was a lot of fun and a great way for us to reach out into the community.
à Participated in the Kerrville Lighted Christmas Parade the Saturday before Thanksgiving with the Youth presenting a Living Nativity scene with what I think was the best float in the parade.
à Helped decorate the Church in preparations for Christmas.
à Helped a member clean up a yard that was overtaken by leaves and brush. The youth dived in and had over 30 bags filled with yard waste.
à The youth showed off their talents in dance, acting, and singing during the Christmas Family Gathering event at SPUMC on December 8. Click here for Family Gathering Pictures
à On December 20th we enjoyed fellowship and fun during our Christ Crew Lock-in. The youth enjoyed games, movies, food, and of course a few shenanigans. Click here for Lock-In Pictures

Over the Christmas Holiday we had a brief moment to catch our breath so we can charge into the year 2020. We will be participating in a Mid-Winter Retreat at Glen Lake in late   January. To help fund our trip we will be having a Sunday lunch after the Sunday Church Service on January 12th. Donations will be accepted in the basket at the front door.
Hope to see you all there!

Many Blessings,
Kelley Schneider, Youth Director

Emmaus News Corner #57

2020 - Another year is beginning for the Hill Country Emmaus Community.

There have been two successful Walks in 2019 and two more successful Walks are being planned for 2020. There will be a Men’s Walk in April and a Women’s Walk in October. If you would like to apply for either Walk, please let me know and I will help you fill out the application.

The next Hill Country Community Gathering will be Monday, January 6, 2020. New officers will have their first official meeting that night. Do come and meet them as they begin this new year.

So that we all can eat and fellowship, please bring a pot luck dish, side or dessert for the meal at 6:00 in the Gym at First UMC. Immediately following at 7:00 will be the praise and worship service. You will leave inspired!                                                                                                                       De Colores!           Ruth Strackbein

United Methodist Women

Happy New Year to the women of St. Paul’s!  Please join us for our first monthly meeting of the new year on January 14th at 1:30 p.m. in the church parlor.  The program will be “Raise Your Light: Taking the Unexpected Path”.  We look forward to seeing you all.

Thanks to everyone who helped and attended our Christmas Tea.  We were all treated to a delightful message from Bridget Dale and gave the Youth Ranch a generous love offering to further their
wonderful work!                                              Christmas Blessings,  Louise Rush

HAPPY NEW YEAR to one and all, here at St. Paul's UMC !!

We are looking forward to a great year ahead in 2020, and are thankful for the Blessings of this past year.

If you have received a good book, or two, for Christmas -- PLEASE consider donating it to St. Paul's Library when you have finished reading it.

You to our donors in 2019: Judy Ward, Pam Traver-Hilburn, Rosalie Pinson, Mary Howell, Rev. Randall Hilburn, Carolyn Watson, Kathleen Christmas, Claire Nelms, Joyce Wilson, and several anonymous donors. Some of these were for Memorial donations for the library.

With a NEW YEAR, comes "New Year's Resolutions." Have you made a resolution to read more books? Please come to your church library, and look over the many genres of books (and other materials: DVDs, Books on CD, Large Print items, etc.) Peruse the collection, and check out something new and appealing to you.

Your library is staffed, Thursdays 9:30 a.m. until noon, and on Sunday mornings.
If it is loc
ked, please ask someone in the church office to open it for you.

Thank you for your support of the Methodist Children's Home in Waco, TX. The MCH serves over 5,000 children and family members each year, providing living facilities for children ages 10 - 18 on their Waco campus and the nearby Boy's Ranch.

As always, we begin our monthly mission emphasis calendar for the new year with our good friends at CAM (Christian Assistance Ministry). CAM is operated by a coalition of more than forty churches here in Kerr County and serves the people of our area with a food pantry, a used clothing shop and limited financial aid which helps pay utility bills and first time prescription costs. CAM also hosts monthly food fairs in the parking lot of the facility and other activities during the year. This wonderful organization depends completely on private and organizational donations to meet operating costs and to continue to serve our community. Our congregation has been very generous in supporting CAM throughout the year but in January, we make it our special point of emphasis.

Thank you in advance for your support of this wonderful organization.
